DR. WILLIAM P. OLIVER NIGHT OF HONOUR
The
annual Rev. Dr. W.P. Oliver-Night of Honour will be held on Saturday, February
2, 2008 at 6:30 p.m. at the Black Cultural Centre for
Special guest speaker will be Ms. Sharon Ross (Initial Black Cultural Centre's Project Co-ordinator). Musical entertainment will be the Beechville Babes and Praise Team from Beechville United Baptist Church.

The
late Rev. Dr. William Pearly Oliver, C.M. was born on February 11, 1912 in the
small town of Wolfville, Nova Scotia. In 1930 he enrolled in the pre-med course
at
He
was clerk and compiler of the AUBA for eighteen years and in 1962 was elected as
Moderator. He was an Honorary Captain in the Army and provided spiritual
guidance as Chaplain to Blacks of all denominations in the services.
He
was a strong advocate for human rights, dissemination of racial discrimination
and education. The vision of the Black Cultural Society/Centre was the genesis
of Dr. Oliver. Thus, the Black Cultural Society was incorporated in 1977, and
the Black Cultural Centre officially opened its doors in 1983.
In
recognition and honour of such a distinguished individual, the Black Cultural
Society/Centre, implemented the first annual Rev. Dr. W.P. Oliver Wall of Honour
in February 1994.
