2011 - 28th Anniversary - Lift Every Voice

“Lift Every Voice” A Meet/Greet with Senator Don Meredith

On Friday, April 15 at 7:30 pm the BCS/BCC welcomed Senator Don Meredith to a youth event at the Black Cultural Centre. Sen. Meredith was in Nova Scotia to be guest speaker at the BCC 28th Anniversary Dinner  April 16th and agreed to come a day early so that he could meet with more youth. Although, there was very short public notice of this quickly organized evening, it proved very worthwhile for those in attendance. Dr. Oliver, hosted and accompanied the Senator, Mrs. Michelle Meredith and Ms Flannery, Exc. Asst.  to Sen. Meredith.

Over 55 young people and a total audience of approximately 95 came out to met the Senator and to express their concerns about youth and young adult issues related to education, community and employment. Senator Meredith  participated in the dignified but lively session. The event was skillfully facilitated by educator Mr. Conrad Grosse discussing pertinent issues with the various participants. Senator Meredith was outstanding and spoke to the youth openly encouraging them to remain focused on positive goals with God and faith paramount in life.  He was enthusiastic in suggesting that he would like to see more young people visit the Senate and Parliament in Ottawa. Participants were nourished by the delicious pizza and patties donated by “Tasty Pizza” and “Passage To Caribbean” restaurants.

We anticipate that the event will result in a BCC youth initiative organized with help from Senator Meredith’s connections, assisted by RBC and guided by Mr. Conrad Grosse. The BCC thanks Senator Meredith for his inspiration and hopes that more will come of this youth iniative.
