SUMMER JOB POSTINGS
Position: Museum Tour Guide / Assistant - Young Canada Works
Rate: $9.50 per hour (35 hrs. per week)
Start Date: Early June
Duration: 13 weeks
Job Description: To be part of the museum team, interacting with visitors to the museum. Occasional assignments will include assisting with exhibits that portray African Nova Scotian heritage. The job requires knowledge of computer applications such as Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel and Access. The successful candidate must be prepared to start work immediately and able to work Monday to Saturday's.
Duties: Provide guided tours to visitors; assist public in orientation to Centre; conduct youth activity programs; assist in library patron directory; re-arrange vertical file reference material and sort video/DVD material in library.
Qualifications:
-University and/or college student (returning to studies)
-General knowledge and interest of African-Nova Scotia History;
-Good verbal and written communication skills;
-Ability to conduct research via internet and library;
-Ability to read/write French would be an asset

Position: Museum Curatorial Assistant - Young Canada Works
Rate: $9.50 per hour (35 hrs. per week)

Duration: 13 weeks
Job Description: This position is responsible for the maintenance and upgrade of exhibits, displays, artifacts, indexing of photographs and interaction with the general public. Individual should have knowledge of computer usage and Internet research; good verbal and written communication skills; appreciation and knowledge of Black Nova Scotian History. As part of the museum team, they will interact with visitors during peak periods. This position is open to university and college students who are returning to studies in the Fall. The job requires knowledge of computer applications such as Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel and Access. The successful candidate must be prepared to start work immediately and able to work Monday to Saturday's.
Duties: Exhibition development, maintenance of exhibit areas, assist in creating children-focused activities; documentation of artifact collection and catalogue; assist in signage improvements; photographs and index exhibit space.

· not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) while employed with YCW;
· have been a full-time student (as defined their educational institutions) in the semester preceding their job with YCW; and
· intend to return to full-time studies in the semester following their job with YCW.

Position: Museum Digital Collection Developer - Service Canada
Start Date: Early June 2010
Wage: $ 9.50 per hour (30 hours per week)
The Black Cultural Society, parent organization of the Black Cultural Centre is pleased to offer a summer position as part of the Service Canada Summer Work Program. To apply you must currently be a full time student between the ages of 18-30 and be returning to full time studies in the fall. The job requires knowledge of computer applications such as Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel and Access. The successful candidate must be prepared to start work in June and able to work Monday to Saturday's.
Job Description
Digitize the museum collection: includes: Sort archival photos, photograph artifacts, perform digital scans, save digital images into assigned file folders, back up files, enter identifying information into a museum collection database along with digital images. Assist researchers locate materials of artifacts or photo archive.
The student will meet with a supervisor daily for assignments and must have the skills to work without constant supervision. All assignments and designated tasks will be reviewed for completion and accuracy as required. The supervision will provide hands-on experience, along with learning opportunities.
