2010 Stepping Stone Bursary

Black Cultural Society of Nova Scotia A Stepping Stone to a Brighter Future Bursary

Bursary

The Black Cultural Society of Nova Scotia is pleased to present a Bursary – “A Stepping Stone to a Brighter Future”.  This Bursary was awarded for the first time in 2008 to African Nova Scotian students graduating from a Nova Scotia High School or an Adult High School.

This program was established to assist and encourage African Nova Scotian students to continue their education at a Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC).  This year it will be awarded to one (1) student who has completed Grade 12 in the Nova Scotia school system and who is enrolled full-time at a NSCC. This Bursary will be renewed in the second year based on the successful completion in the first year (unless for reasons such as medical or death in their immediate family).

Eligibility

The applicant must be enrolled as a full time student in a Nova Scotia Community College Program in the academic year following high school graduation.  The successful student will be eligible to receive this award over two years, based on the successful completion of the first year of their program choice.

The successful applicant will have demonstrated financial need, a consistently good academic standing, and have demonstrated involvement in the community through extra-curricular activities and/or community service, as determined by the Black Cultural Society Bursary Selection Committee.

How to Apply

Applications can be obtained from the High School or Adult High School Guidance Counselors or the Student Support Workers at any high school across Nova Scotia.  Applications can also be downloaded online. Please return the application by June 15, 2010.
