Freedom Celebration - "The Night of Heroes"

Black Cultural Centre for Nova Scotia Celebrates 27 years.

April 17 is the Black Cultural Centre’s “Freedom Celebration - Night of Heroes”. It will be an evening of fun, friendship and fundraising. You are invited to be part of this social networking event on Saturday, April 17, 2010, reception at 6:00 pm, dinner at 7:00 pm in the Park Place Ramada Plaza Hotel and Conference Centre, Dartmouth. Tickets purchased at $100.00 per seat provide funds to support critical parts of the Centre’s educational programs. Tables for 10 and other opportunities for support are available.

The evening is planned to recognize six Nova Scotians who helped create the Black Cultural Centre as a permanent reminder of who and what African Nova Scotians are. The evening will honour:

  • Hon. Senator Donald Oliver – led the Society in conceiving the Centre
  • Hon. John Buchanan – led the province to support operation of the Centre
  • Hon. Gerald Regan – championed federal support for creation of the Centre
  • late A. Garnet Brown - championed provincial support for creation of the Centre
  • late Charles Keating – brought corporate and business guidance to the Centre
  • late Dr. John Savage –sustained community and government faith in the Centre

A special "Freedom Award" will be presented to the heroes or their family to celebrate the result of their outstanding efforts.

The keynote speaker is Rod Dixon, NASA scientist and inventor from Ontario (via Bermuda). Mr. Dixon was part of a special team creating the revolutionary “CAN ARM” device that brought much recognition to Canada’s space program. He will present his exciting account of life in aerospace technology.

Special entertainment will be provided by the gifted gospel tenor, Mr. Marcel Symonds of Halifax. We can always count on Marcel to delight us with his powerful singing.

We want you to attend but, if not, remember that every cash donation can sponsor a student or other community person to attend the gala evening or can be used to support the Centre’s youth programs.

Please contact the Black Cultural Centre as soon as possible, in person, via telephone;  (902) 434-6223 or online (www.bccns.com) to get your tickets before they are all gone.

We appreciate your support.
