William Hall V.C. Stamp Launch

On Tuesday February 2, 2010, Canada Post unveiled a stamp honouring William Hall, the Nova Scotia born Naval hero who in 1857 became the first Black person, the first Canadian sailor and the first Nova Scotian to be awarded the Victoria Cross, the British Empire’s highest award for valour.
The descendants of Seaman Hall were in attendance at the Black Cultural Centre as well as the Honourable Mayann Francis, Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia, RAdm Paul Maddison, Commander JTFA and MARLANT, Dr. Robert Waite, chairman of the Canada Post Stamp Advisory Committee and various other dignitaries.
